Blogger or Wordpress.com ?

Blogger and Wordpress.com(WP) are probably the two most developed and spread out blogging tools available for public. I believe that you have come across these terms in the search engine results, in case you were thinking of setting up your own blog. In this article, I would like to give you a structured, general know-how on basic differences between these two tools and their advantages and disadvantages.

Let us start by listing what these two have in common:

User-friendly interface - blog is easy to set up and maintain

Substantial support - WP is probably broader, but it is possible to find answers to almost all of your questions on both services

Free domain - services are free, at least in their basic version; after the sign up, you have your own domain, but with the addition .blogspot or .wordpress respectively to its name (you have to buy your own domain in order to NOT have an addition to its name)

No database access - this means, for example, that you cannot set up your own forum on your blog or directly handle the information of your website users (once again, in comparison, buying your own domain gives you a complete power over it, including database access)

Small and large differences:
  1. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - as surprising as it may be, at this time, WP is better optimized for the search engines, meaning that you can take up better positions in the search engine results with less obstructions in the process
  2. Monetization - Blogger allows you to monetize your website, meaning you can set up AdSense ads or any other kind of advertisement on your blog in order to make profit; in case of WP, their User Policy forbids you to put any advertisement on your blog
  3. Template editing - WP gives you only basic options to alter a design of a certain template you selected, and you may edit CSS only through buying "premium" account; instead, Blogger gives you much better control to change the looks and it gives you full access to HTML and CSS code behind your blog for free
  4. Social networks - WP has a solid plugin to connect your site to all your social network accounts, specifically Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, LinkedIn - when you post an article, it will appear on all social networks as well. This option is excluded from Blogger, you may find only third-party (NOT developed by Google) plugins for this purpose, but the functionality is poor in comparison to WP original

What can we learn from this information?

First of all, these two options I discussed above are definitely for people, who do not want to buy their own domain and spend money on it. Everyone who wants to spend time developing their site and has 80 USD / year (the usual basic price) for new domain, buy it and use it !

Simply put, Wordpress has better optimization (better visibility for public) and social network plugins, which allow you to increase the page views of your blog rapidly, provided with quality content of course. If you want to sign up, choose a template and begin writing articles for the people to see, Wordpress is your choice.

On the other hand, Blogger allows you to make money with your blog via Ads and gives you full control over your template. Of course, the process of template editing might be a bit complicated for a total beginner, but, it is freedom.

Go on, make your choice !

I must go for Blogger, I think blogger is more easy to use and as well as more effective. Its pages appears in search engine fast because it is powered by Google. WordPress is also good but I prefer Blogger over WordPress. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Its worth to read the whole article.
